Why is Todoroki Called Five Weenies?

It’s a funny nickname that’s been called back a few times, but why is Todoroki called Five Weenies?

Todoroki is called Five Weenies because a group of children named him that. He was tasked with winning over the hearts of unruly elementary schoolers for his provisional license, and the kids gave him that nickname.

The kids misinterpret his hero equipment as a “weenie,” with Todoroki unsuccessfully trying to convince them otherwise.

Todoroki is called Five Weenies by a group of children

In chapter #164, Todoroki and Bakugo must retake their provisional license exam after failing their first attempt. During their following attempt, a large group of children from the Masegaki Public Elementary School enter the training facility where the exam takes place. They’re watched by Todoroki’s dad, Endeavor.

Gang Orca, pro hero and the exam proctor, explains the purpose of the new exam. Todoroki and Bakugo failed the previous attempt because they lacked “heart,” putting all their focus into their fighting skills.

Learning to win over the group of unruly children is the true test of the day. If they can win the childrens’ hearts, they’ll be one step closer to satisfying their provisional license requirement.

A group of children approach Todoroki, grabbing and pulling at the equipment attached to his belt. “Hey, what’s this,” a child asks repeatedly. “What’s this? Your weiner?” Todoroki stops the child and explains that his equipment is actually a first aid supply for when he can’t make a rescue in time.

The children, not satisfied with his answer, inform Todoroki that he’s wrong. “Nah! It’s a weiner! You’re the hero, five wieners, ‘five weenies,’ right?”

This nickname is called back to later in the series when Todoroki is in a predicament. The children, hearing of Todoroki’s struggle, say they’re not worried and that Five Weenies will prevail.

So that’s the answer. Todoroki is called Five Weenies because a group of children named him that. Todoroki is tasked with winning over the hearts of a group of elementary school children, and that’s the nickname they immaturely give him. They accidentally refer to his hero equipment as a “weenie.”
