Why Does Todoroki Hate His Dad?

The relationship between Todoroki and his Dad, Endeavor, has been strained since the start of the series. But why does Todoroki hate his dad?

Todoroki claims to hate his Dad because he blames him for disrupting their family. He hates his Dad for wearing down his Mother, causing her to lash out and burn Todoroki’s face.

Endeavor’s main focus was breeding the perfect hybrid-quirk wielding child that could carry on his legacy. He neglected his other children that only had one quirk, pushing and training Todoroki at a young age to master his dual-quirk abilities (fire and ice).

This intense pressure on Todoroki to fulfill his father’s will, combined with Endeavor’s abusive nature towards his wife and other children, led Todoroki to hate his father.

Once Endeavor became the #1 hero and Todoroki grew into his teen years, the father began efforts to rekindle relationships with both his children and wife. Todoroki is skeptical of his Dad’s attempts to change.

This burn… I think of it as something our old man gave me. Mom endured and endured… until she couldn’t anymore. So I can’t just decide to forgive the guy who wore her down.

“Todoroki, I think… you’re getting yourself ready to be able to forgive him. But because you’re so caring yourself, it’s like you’re waiting… or at least that’s how it seems.
