As the Chainsaw Man plot pushes on, more and more characters seem intent on stealing Denji’s heart from his chest. But why does everyone want the heart within Denji?
Everyone wants the heart within Denji because Pochita (The Chainsaw Devil) possesses the ability to erase other devils from existence. Many of humanity’s darkest moments have already been erased by the Chainsaw Devil, and Makima wants to control this power to steer human history into her own direction.
In Chapter #84, Kishibe is able to get Makima alone to confront her. He wants answers on why she’s after Denji’s heart. Makima in turn explains the history of the Chainsaw Devil and its potential use after she defeats and controls it with the power of her own devil.
Plot Reason Behind Why Everyone Wants The Heart Within Denji
Makima explained how Chainsaw Man has become marked for target by many devils. Some react to his “chaotic exploits” with anger while others attempt to run and escape, some even worshipping him.
And there’s another reason that he is the devil that devils fear most. The devils that Chainsaw Man eats… Their names are erased from existence. You can’t perceive it, that’s only natural. You see, names that have been eaten are apparently erased from the past, the present, and even individuals’ memories.
Makima to Kishibe | Chapter #84
The Chainsaw Devil possesses the ability to erase the history of any devil it eats. World War II, nuclear weapons, and volcanic eruptions are concepts that used to exist, but are no longer remembered in their world. This is thanks to Chainsaw Man eating them. Only Makima, with her Control Devil power, retains these past knowledges that seem to slip further from her mind over time.
Kishibe has a hard time wrapping his head around this idea. He asks Makima what her plan would be with this kind of enormous power.
I want to use Chainsaw Man to create a better world. Take, for example… Death. War. Hunger. There are many things in this world that humanity would be happier without. With Chainsaw Man’s power, I’ll blot them all out.

If Makima fails to defeat Chainsaw Man in battle and can’t use her Control Devil to gather his powers, she admits she’d be okay with being eaten by him. It would be seen as an honor as she is the type of devil to worship at his awe-inspiring power.
