Hyperspace seems like the ideal getaway, but sometimes you can still be tracked. How did Obi-Wan track Jango Fett through hyperspace?
Obi-Wan is able to track Jango Fett through hyperspace by attaching a tracking device to his ship. Before Jango takes off, Obi-Wan throws a tracking device that sticks on to the exterior of the ship.
The Jedi is attempting to capture Jango Fett so he may be brought in for questioning. He’s a person of interest in the assassination attempts against Senator Padme, and his likeliness is being used for a clone army.
Obi-Wan informs the Jedi Council
Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones, Obi-Wan uses a transmission to speak with Yoda and Mace Windu of the Jedi Council. He informs them that he’s successfully made contact with the Prime Minister of Kamino.
Obi-Wan discovers that a bounty hunter named Jango Fett is being used to create a clone army. He expresses to the Jedi Council a strong feeling that Jango is the assassin who attempts to hurt Senator Padme Amidala. Previously, Obi-Wan makes a dangerous jump out of a window to find the identity of the assassin.
Despite suspicions that Jango is the assassin, Obi-Wan says there appears to be no motive on the part of those operating the clones.
Yoda tells Obi-Wan not to make assumptions. The Jedi Master says that Obi-Wan’s mind must be clear if he is to discover the real villains behind the assassination plot.
Obi-Wan continues to explain that the Prime Minister of Kamino alerts him that Master Sifo-Dyas placed an order for the clone army, at the request of the senate, almost ten years ago.
Sifo-Dyas supposedly perished in battle years before that. Windu explains that whoever placed the order for the clone army did not have authorization from the Jedi Council. Yoda then instructs Obi-Wan to capture Jango and bring him in for questioning.
Obi-Wan is able to track Jango Fett through hyperspace
As Obi-Wan runs outside to capture Jango, he sees the bounty hunter and his son, Boba, fleeing. Jango pulls out his blasters and begins shooting at Obi-Wan.
Obi-Wan is able to deflect the shots as Jango jetpacks upward. Boba, from the cockpit, spins the ship around in order to fire missiles at Obi-Wan. The blasts separate the Jedi from his lightsaber, forcing him to have a fist fight with Jango.
The two continue a perilous struggle that ultimately results in Jango escaping. As his ship takes off, Obi-Wan throws a tracking device onto Jango’s ship. The device snaps into place on the side of the ship as it takes off.
Obi-Wan then commandeers his own ship, chasing Jango through hyperspace with the help of the tracking device.
