You may not want to get on the bad side of the biggest player in New Vegas. Still, should I bug Mr. House for the Followers?
Yes, you should bug Mr. House for the Followers. You’ll receive reputation-fame for the Followers and quest XP. Mr. House does not punish you for helping.
The player can also receive medical supplies as a reward if they pass a Barter skill check.
Emily Ortal asks you to bug Mr. House
While leaving the Lucky 38, you may be approached by Emily Ortal, a member of the Followers of the Apocalypse.
She’ll ask if you’re the Courier who “caused all that trouble at The Tops.” The player can ask Emily why they’d want to know.
Emily, very nervously, admits the Followers heard the Courier had been inside the Lucky 38. She’s wondering if the Courier would be willing to help her and the Followers.
Before deciding whether or not to inquire about the request, the player can pass an “Intelligence 6” skill check. The check asks Emily how she received enough money to enter The Strip.
Without a pass or excuse to enter The Strip through the NCR train line, tourists must submit to a 2000-cap credit check. Mr. House’s robot guards will check if the tourist has a minimum of 2000 caps in their account, and grant them access to The Strip.
Emily says the Followers scraped together enough caps required for the credit check. She also says she’s staying at Vault 21, which is relatively cheap for The Strip.
The bug is planted
If the player wants to help, they can ask Emily what the request involves. She says the Followers have interest in Mr. House’s technology, and how he stays alive.
Since no one is allowed inside the Lucky 38 except for the Courier, only they can provide this information.
Emily says that learning the key to Mr. House’s long life could be a benefit to those the Followers try to help. It will aid many who suffer from hard to diagnose illnesses.
House will surely use this technology in his future plans for New Vegas, at large.
A “Barter 40” check allows the Courier to negotiate a cap payment. If passed, Emily will offer the player “some medical supplies” for their efforts. The supplies themselves are worth plenty of caps, Emily claims.
Before planting the bug inside the Lucky 38, the player can warn Mr. House. He admits the Followers are curious about him, and gives the Courier luck in regards to planting a bug without him knowing about it.
Mr. House does not reprimand or threaten the Courier about the bug.
Once you plant the bug in the Lucky 38’s casino-level terminal, the player can return to Emily outside. The player will receive Followers of the Apocalypse fame and XP for completing “The Moon Comes Over The Tower” quest.
Emily says the bug has been taken offline only a few minutes after being planted. The player can return to Mr. House and admit they planted a bug on his network. House says it was “detected immediately and deactivated.” He does not hold it against you or punish you.
So that’s the answer. You should definitely bug Mr. House for the Followers. You’ll receive reputation-fame for the Followers and quest XP, and Mr. House won’t care.
