Why Does Obi-Wan Steal Meat?

At the start of Obi-Wan’s spinoff show, we see him cutting up pieces of meat after work. He slips them in his pocket, unbeknownst to everyone around him. It’s a daily ritual, but why does Obi-Wan steal meat?

Obi-Wan chooses to steal meat to feed his pet Eopie. He feeds the Eopie a piece of stolen meat every day after work, and the creature gives Obi-Wan a ride back to his cave.

The Eopie patiently waits in the shade for Obi-Wan to return from work.

Obi-Wan chooses to steal meat from his job

In Obi-Wan Kenobi, Obi-Wan lives in humble anonymity on Tatooine. He is tasked with protecting and watching over Luke Skywalker, as Order 66 still permits the hunt and execution of all Jedi.

The remote planet is theroized to be far away from the Sith, whereas force-senseitivty cannot be detected.

Yet, Inquisitors, agents of the Empire who are tasked with hunting down the remaining Jedi after Order 66, arrive in Tatooine.

Scavengers have detected a whale-like creature buried half-beneath the Tatooine sand. Obi-Wan, looking to blend in, acquires an assembly line job that involves dicing and packaging the extracted meat.

At the end of his shift, Obi-Wan chooses to steal a piece of meat. He tucks it in his chest pocket, his coworkers and bosses seemingly unaware of this end-of-shift ritual.

Obi-Wan rides a communal transport vehicle back into town. Once reached, he approaches his personal Eopie, a ridable creature similar to a Tauntaun in capability. The creature patiently waits in the shade for Obi-Wan to return.

The Eopie proves to be useful for riding, but it could have other uses. Han Solo is able to survive Hoth by cutting open a Tauntaun and placing Luke inside of it. This tactic can possibly be used on the Eopie, should a freezing desert night ever occur.

He then pets the beast and removes the meat from his pocket. Unraveling it from the cloth, Obi-Wan feeds his Eopie the meat he steals from work. With this new energy, the Eopie gives Obi-Wan a ride back to his cave.

So that’s the answer. Obi-Wan chooses to steal meat from work to feed to his mount, an Eopie. He feeds the creature a small piece of meat every day after work.
