Why Didn’t Deku Get Any Offers?

He’s one of the strongest students in Class 1A, but there were only crickets when it was time to be recognized by the Pros. Why didn’t Deku get any offers?

Deku didn’t get any offers because he scared off the Pros. His performance during the Sports Festival was unprofessional, as he lacks control over his quirk. The Pros may have considered Deku too much of a liability at the time.

He is eventually drafted by Gran Torino, a retired Pro Hero and former mentor of All Might.

Deku doesn’t recieve any draft offers

Chapter #45 begins with Deku riding the train to school. He’s being recognized by passengers due to his explosive performance in the Sports Festival two days prior.

Deku isn’t used to the attention, but bears it. He sees Iida on the rainy path to school and joins him in a run to class.

Sensei Aizawa explains to the class that today will focus on Hero Informatics. The students will choose their hero aliases and receive new information on Pro Heroes who have interest in drafting them to their agencies.

Aizawa says the draft is based on who the Pros think will be ready to join the hero workforce after another two or three years of experience. The draft acts as a way for Pros to show interest in young, aspiring heroes’ futures.

Yet, there’s ample time for a Pro’s interest to wane before the student graduates, Aizawa explains. Any and all offers can be revoked without question, as has happened quite commonly in the past.

Aizawa shows the class their draft picks

Aizawa then projects the top draft picks onto the chalkboard. The decisions are primarily based on performance in the Sports Festival, amongst other reputation-building activities that the students have recently completed.

Todoroki and Bakugo are the highest drafted students. Despite Todoroki losing to Bakugo, he still pulls ahead. It seems as though Bakugo being chained up at the Sports Festival may have knocked him down to second. Tokoyami, Iida, and Kaminari are the next most popular choices, albeit much further down in votes. Not a single draft for Deku is shown on the screen.

Mineta shakes Deku’s shoulder, pointing out that he’s not on the list. “Told you,” Mineta says. “You scared them.”

So that’s the answer.

Deku didn’t get any offers because he scared off the Pros. His performance during the Sports Festival was unprofessional, displaying an amateu use of his quirk and a lack of understanding as to how it works.
