Why Did Power Bring Denji a Cake?

It’s the last moment the two best friends are able to share before an untimely demise. But why did Power bring Denji a cake?

Power chose to bring Denji a cake because the following day is his birthday. Makima invites Power over to her house, presumably under the ruse they’d have a birthday party for Denji.

Once Power arrives at the house, Makima reveals her true intentions with her.

Power is invited to bring a cake to Makima’s house

Chapter #81 begins with Denji and Makima hanging out inside her home. The previous chapter, Makima propositions Denji to become one of her dogs. He accepts, as he wants to live an easier life that doesn’t require choice and decision making.

Why Does Denji Not Like Power?

Denji is still reeling from Aki’s passing, blaming himself for it. Despite hundreds of potential lives being saved, Denji still wishes he never had to make the choice that ultimately resulted in Aki’s perishing.

Acting like an obedient dog, Denji roleplays with Makima. At that moment, the doorbell dings off. Makima says she called Power to come over, and Denji, unsure of the situation, goes along with it.

As the two walk to the door, Makima admits she is going to end Power’s life. Denji is rightfully confused and tries to ask a question, but Makima ignores him as she would any other dog. He is encouraged to open the door.

Denji thinks to himself that when he opens the door, Power will be there, smiling. She’ll pull a party popper and be holding a cake, as tomorrow is Denji’s birthday.

The door creaks open, revealing Power with a birthday cake. She is able to whisper out “Denji” before Makima, using the power of her devil contract, obliterates Power with the point of a finger.

So that’s the answer. Power brings Denji a cake because the following day is his birthday. Makima invites Power over to her house, likely under the guise of it being a birthday party for Denji.
