When the viewer first meets Han, he already owes a huge amount of debt to Jabba the Hutt. The main reason Han accepts the transport deal with Luke and Obi-Wan is so he can be paid a lump sum that’ll be used to pay off the debt. As this transport goes on, Han becomes further wrapped in the drama and realizes the Empire’s looming threat to freedom across the whole galaxy. He decided to aid the rebels and use his skills to help their cause.

His love for Princess Leia
Unexpectedly, Han falls in love with Princess Leia once they met. He initially only claims to be interested in the pay out, but has a hard time denying his feelings for the Princess as they spend more time together. During all three original films, Han puts himself in harm’s way to save Leia. His love for her is surely at least one reason for why he’d join the rebel cause.
