He’s made plenty of enemies throughout the galaxy, but what business does Han Solo have with Boba Fett? Why did Boba Fett want Han Solo?
Boba Fett wants Han Solo because Jabba The Hutt has placed a bounty on him. Fett is concerned about Solo being frozen in Carbonite, as he wants the full bounty of bringing in the smuggler alive.
It is established in the previous film, A New Hope, that Solo has a large bounty on his head. He’s warned by Greedo that every bounty hunter in the galaxy will be looking for him, and Fett surely did.
Boba Fett makes contact with Han Solo
In Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back, Darth Vader and his troops reach Cloud City before Han Solo arrives. The smuggler wants to stop in the city for repairs on the Millennium Falcon, as he’s old friends with Lando Calrissian, an Administrator on the planet.

Put in an uncomfortable position, Calrissian agrees to give up Solo, Leia, and Chewbacca so long as Cloud City is protected from Imperial rule. Vader tortures Solo for information and then leaves the room.
Boba Fett, a bounty hunter, is told that he may bring Solo to Jabba The Hutt after Vader has Skywalker. Fett says that Solo is no good to him dead, but Vader reassures the hunter that he will not be permanently damaged from the device.
A few scenes later, Vader explains the Carbonite freezing process that will be used to transport Skywalker to the Emperor. Calrissian reiterates to Vader that the facility is only used for Carbon Freezing. Placing someone inside may end their life.
Vader then says they can test the Carbonite on Solo, instead of Skywalker. The Emperor’s prize can not be damaged, Vader explains. Before Solo is placed into the Carbon Freeze, Fett approaches Vader.
Fett asks what will happen if Solo doesn’t survive, as he’s worth a lot to him. Vader says the Empire will compensate Fett adequately if Solo doesn’t survive.
So that’s the answer. Boba Fett wants Han Solo because of a bounty placed on his head by Jabba The Hutt. Fett wants to cash in on the bounty.
