The Plot Behind How Denji And Reze Meet
Chapter #40 begins with Denji thinking of the date he had with Makima the night before. His entire mood has changed, declaring that he must have a heart if he can feel such strong butterflies.
That’s how great Makima is. Just talking to her wiped my worries away.

Denji thinks about Makima’s proposition that should he collect the scattered pieces of the Gun Devil, she’ll grant him any one wish. He decides to ask Makima out for real and vows to never fall in love with anybody else.
A sudden rainstorm picks up and Denji hides in a telephone booth for cover. A few moments later, a brunette girl opens up the booth door and steps inside with him. Reze starts laughing, saying that Denji’s face reminds her of a dog she loved that passed away.
To cheer Reze up, Denji regurgitates a flower that he ate before the rainstorm. It was handed to him as a gift after he donated to an on-the-street charity cause, which he promptly swallowed.
The rain stops and Reze smiles at Denji.

Denji actually beats Reze to her place of work, sitting at a table before she even has time to even put on her apron. She offers him a cup of coffee and starts to become more comfortable. Denji wonders if she could be showing signs that she likes him.
