The Easiest Companion to Get in New Vegas

Fallout: New Vegas has plenty of obtainable followers, but who is the easiest companion to get?

The easiest companion to get in Fallout: New Vegas is Boone. You can complete his side quest very fast, and the player enters Novac relatively early in the game.

You technically pass Cass’ location earlier than Boone, but the side quest to obtain her is very convoluted.

While following the main quest, players are encouraged to head South of Goodsprings. They‘re told to cut through Primm and inquire about their missing package.

A group of deadly Deathclaws skulk the North above Goodsprings, so it’s highly recommended the player heads South and goes around the center of the map, heading up North from the other side.

From Primm, the player then heads East through Nipton and up to Novac. Boone, the night-time sniper of Novac, is the easiest companion for the player to get.

Technically, Cass is the first potential follower the player can encounter. While it is true the player passes the Mojave Outpost on their way to Primm, the quest to obtain Cass as a follower is very convoluted.

Obtaining Boone

The player must travel to the Crimson Caravan Company which is next to New Vegas. This is obviously out of the way for earlier players, so acquiring Boone from Novac is far faster.

Boone’s initial quest to gain him as a follower can be completed quickly. If you want to soak in the quest “One For My Baby” and not rush through, then speak with Boone and trigger it. You’ll then interview the townsfolk about Boone’s missing wife and solve the mystery on your own.

If you’re looking to get Boone as fast as possible, or you’ve completed the quest before and don’t care about rushing it, do the following:

  • Start Boone’s quest “One For My Baby” by speaking with him. Boone is inside the big dinosaur’s mouth at night time, which can be accessed by walking through the Dino Bite Gift Shop
  • He’ll give you his Beret to wear as a signal
  • Get Jeannie May Crawford to follow you, likely sleeping in her house at night time.
  • Wear the Beret with her under the Dinosaur, Boone will fire.
  • Search her body for the Dino Dee-lite Motel lobby safe key
  • BEFORE returning to Boone, find the safe behind her desk in the motel and acquire the Bill of Sale.
  • Show Boone the evidence that Jeannie is the trafficker

Convince Boone to join you and he will.

So that’s the answer. The easiest companion to get in Fallout: New Vegas is Boone.
