After Boone’s wife, Carla, is kidnapped from Novac, he sets out to find her. Boone says he tracked her down Southeast, near the river. He’s referring to Cottonwood Cove, the main trafficking hub for the Legion in the Mojave and the docking bay for entrance to The Fort.
Boone goes on to say that through his scope, he saw his wife being trafficked. All of Cottonwood Cove was “swarming” with Legion. Hundreds of soldiers were at the auction, “bidding for things no man has the right to,” according to Boone.

He seems to imply that having to do this action to his wife comes as a form of karma. Boone says that if you take out a debt, it’s only a matter of time before someone comes collecting. “Things just finally caught up with me,” Boone says.
