How Did Din Djarin Learn Tusken?

It’s a shocking moment that reveals a hidden truth of the Mandalorian’s past. How did Din Djarin learn Tusken?

Din Djarin is able to learn Tusken while spending “much time” on Tatooine. He tells Koresh, a local gangster, that he’s spent a large amount of time on the planet. It’s implied the Mandalorian was able to learn Tusken during that period.

He uses his ability to speak Tusken to forge peace between the Raiders and locals of Mos Pelgo.

Din Djarin is able to learn Tusken after time on Tatooine

In The Mandalorian: Season 2, Episode 1, Din Djarin sets out to meet Gor Koresh, an Abyssian gangster who organizes underground gladiator fights.

Din is looking for information that may lead to another Mandalorian. Quested by The Armorer to return The Child to its own kind, Din believes other Mandalorians are his best shot to contact a Jedi.

Prior to Season 2, Din’s primary Mandalorian group was destroyed by Imperial remnants.

He’s told that Koresh has information in regards to the location of a Mandalorian. The situation quickly turns sour, as Koresh reveals he wants to attack Din and steal his Beskar armor.

The Mandalorian easily defeats the boss’ goons and chases him outside. Koresh admits, under the promise that he won’t die by Din’s hand, that a Mandalorian lives on Tatooine.

Din says he’s spent much time on Tatooine, and he’s never seen a Mandalorian there.

Later in the episode, Din agrees to help a local Tatooine Marshall defeat a Krayt Dragon. The two cut a deal: if Din helps defeat the Krayt Dragon, the Marshall will return his Mandalorian armor that he unrightfully obtained.

While investigating the Dragon, Din and the Marshall encounter Tusken Raiders. Din, surprisingly, is able to speak Tusken and communicate with the raiders. The language seems to involve spoken tongue combined with arm movements that are similar to sign language.

The implication is that Din Djarin learns Tusken from his time spent on Tatooine. He tells the gladiator boss that he’s spent “much time” on Tatooine, so it’s implied the Mandalorian learned Tusken during that time period.
