Does Sasuke Permanently Lose His Rinnegan?

After a fierce battle against Jigen, Sasuke and Naruto thought they were in the homestretch. But, an unforeseen incident took out Sasuke’s eye. Does Sasuke permanently lose his Rinnegan?

Yes, Sasuke does permanently lose his Rinnegan. Momoshiki, while possessing Boruto’s body, stabs Sasuke’s Rinnegan and destroys it. Sasuke says himself that he can no longer use his eye.

Kawaki and Boruto use their Karma to teleport the group away from the battlefield.

Sasuke admits he will permanently lose his Rinnegan

In chapter #55, Naruto wakes up after using Baryon Mode. It’s become obvious that Kurama sacrificed himself for the Baryon Mode to take effect. Sasuke has also lost his Rinnegan after Boruto’s consciousness was overtaken by Momoshiki.

How Did Sasuke Get The Rinnegan?

The group was able to neutralize Momoshiki by tricking him into absorbing a bit of chakra. Once he did, Boruto was able to use that small amount of chakra to take control of his body back. Boruto broke and snapped Momoshiki’s horn in two, undoing the possession.

Kawaki mentions to Boruto that they’ll need to use their Karma to find a way back home. Sasuke’s Rinnegan-teleportion was the only means they had to securely travel between dimensions, and Momoshiki’s destruction of the Rinnegan was quick and impossible to fix.

Sasuke says “I can’t use my Rinnegan anymore.” He doesn’t want Boruto to feel bad, as he’s just stating a fact. The entire group was prepared to face their ends, so walking away with a victory and their life intact is all that matters.

Kawaki tries to help Boruto forgive himself by pointing out that Sasuke is okay with it. Boruto rejects this, but tries to use his own Karma to teleport the group from the area out of guilt.

So that’s the answer. Sasuke does permanently lose his Rinnegan after Momoshiki attacks it. He can no longer use his eye or any of the abilities that come with it.
