Can You Play As a Girl in Fallout: New Vegas?

The game is known for its large amounts of role playing, but what are your options at the starting screen? Can you play as a girl in Fallout: New Vegas?

Yes, you can play as a girl in Fallout: New Vegas. Players are given the option at the start of the game.

There’s not much difference between boy and girl characters. The Legion will treat women differently than men, but overall it’s not a huge issue.

Choosing a girl in Fallout: New Vegas

Fallout: New Vegas begins with the player waking up from a haze. An old voice urges the player to take it easy and gather their bearings.

Once the player sits up, they’re greeted by Doc Mitchell, the local doctor of Goodsprings. He says the player has been out cold for a few days, recovering from their weapon wound to the head.

In order to assess the player’s mental well-being, Doc Mitchell asks their name. This is the opportunity for the player to name themselves.

Mitchell jokes that it’s not the name he’d pick for you, regardless of your choice.

He explains he had to go “rooting around there in your noggin to pull the bits of lead out.” Mitchell says he takes pride in his needlework, but he holds up a mirror for the player to check for anything out of place.

At this moment, the player can choose whether they’re a boy or a girl. The player will also be able to choose their race, facial features, hair style, and other options.

There’s not many differences between playing as a boy or girl character. Girls can select the perk “Cherchez La Femme” which grants 10+ damage against opponents of the same gender.

The perk also allows for specific dialogue options throughout the game. This allows the player to access particular outcomes that would not be available otherwise.

Female Couriers also have a hard time joining the Legion. Although you can join and work for Caesar, you won’t be allowed to participate in the Fort’s combat arena. This occurs because the Legion thinks less of women, regardless of your accomplishments towards the group.

So that’s the answer. Yes, you can play as a girl in Fallout: New Vegas. You’re given the option to choose at the start of the game.
