Why Did Bakugo Choose Best Jeanist?

All of Class 1-A’s students choose internships with pro heroes as the season comes around. An odd choice, Bakugo ends up interning with Best Jeanist for a time. But why did Bakugo choose Best Jeanist?

Bakugo decides to choose Best Jeanist because of the pro hero’s popularity. He has no pre-existing friendship with any other pro hero when internship season rolls around, so Bakugo goes with a top-five hero.

Despite Bakugo choosing Best Jeanist for a vain reason, Jeanist looks to make the most out of it. He says he enjoys the “troublemakers” coming to his agency, as he looks to reform and refine them.

Many students leverage previous friendships with pro heroes, are invited, or are able to find work through other connections. Deku, for example, interns with aged hero Gran Torino after All Might’s recommendation.

Bakugo choose Best Jeanist for his internship

Chapter #48 begins with Best Jeanist welcoming Bakugo to his Pro Hero Agency. Jeanist tells Bakugo that, in all honesty, he’s not much of a fan. He imagines the only reason that Bakugo chose his agency was because of his top five spot amongst the most popular heroes.

Despite Bakugo’s reputation as a troublemaker, Jeanist decides to draft him. All Jeanist has had lately are “little do-gooders,” and Bakugo is the first student intern in a long time who is “a bit more ferocious.” Jeanist says it is his job as hero to reform prospective amateur heroes like Bakugo.

Jeanist says that heroes and villains are two sides of the same coin. He can see that truth in Bakugo’s glare, and so Jeanist questions what it is that truly makes someone a hero.

So that’s the answer. Bakugo decides to choose Best Jeanist because he’s a top-five hero. There’s not much of a preference beforehand, as Bakugo was looking to gain as high-quality of an experience as possible.
