Does Levi Need a Wheelchair?

In the final chapter of Attack on Titan, Levi is seen sitting in a wheelchair. This draws a lot of speculation as to whether or not he can walk without it, but there’s a few clues that can lead us in the right direction.

Levi may not necessarily need a wheelchair. He has motion of his legs, as raising his right leg would indicate, but it may be difficult for him to walk long distances.

Falco, Gabi, and Onyankopon are walking the Marleyan streets when the panel of Levi in the wheelchair appears. It could be that a long day of walking around is too much for Levi, and he must be pushed. It is certain that he is not completely paralyzed.

In chapter #139, the final chapter of Attack on Titan, a brief time skip occurs. The chapter refers to the group’s final clash as “The Battle of Heaven & Earth,” and the plot jumps ahead 3 years to display the aftermath of the fight.

Why Did Levi Choose Armin Over Erwin?

Falco, Gabi, and Onyankopon walk the Marleyan streets. Captain Levi, who sits within a chair, looks up from his newspaper to see a biplane pass overhead. His right leg rests up over his left, showing that he still possesses signs of movement.

Surgical scars from the Thunder Spear explosion incident still cover his face. No other damage appears to be long lasting upon Levi’s body.

So this raises the question. Does Levi need a wheelchair? It appears that he does have movement in his legs, as raising the right leg up would indicate. Yet, someone as prideful as Levi using a wheelchair does indicate that he may need it.

So that’s the answer. Levi does not necessarily need a wheelchair, but he may for long distances. The shot of him in the wheelchair takes place when the group is going for a walk. Levi is able to move his right leg, so he is certainly not paralyzed.
